Mercer’s Quality of Living Survey: Zürich Scores
Second Place
Zürich, the biggest city and economic engine of
Switzerland, came in second in the annual quality of living
survey by Mercer Human Resource Consulting. With 108 points,
Zürich, which boasted the highest quality of living worldwide
for seven out of the past eight years, managed to repeat last
year’s excellent score and finished runner-up ahead of Geneva
and Vancouver. Just as last year, it was outperformed only by
Vienna, which earned 108.6 points in the survey.
Mercer’s yearly worldwide quality of living
survey evaluates 221 cities on 39 criteria including political,
social, economic and environmental factors, personal safety and
health, education, transport, and other public services. Each
city is awarded a score according to how far the quality of life
available exceeds or falls behind New York, which is the base
city at 100.
The survey helps governments and multinational
companies to choose expansion and relocation destinations and
place employees on international assignments. Quality of living
has become an important location parameter that is conducive to
guaranteeing that the employees’ job satisfaction and
identification with their company stays at high levels.
