Universities of the Greater Zurich Area improve
slightly in global ranking
The universities of the Greater Zurich Area have
done well again: The recently published Academic Ranking of
World Universities 2010 by the Jiao Tong University Shanghai
puts the ETH Zurich in 29th place of its global ranking; the
University of Zurich gains three ranks compared to last year and
is now in 51th place.
ETH Zurich was therefore again considered the best university in
continental Europe and is ranked fourth including Great Britain.
It also is an excellent global fifth in the subject field
Chemistry. ETH Zurich did very well in the global ranking by
other subject groups as well, for example in Science and
Mathematics (rank 9).
Jiao Tong University has been publishing the
Shanghai Ranking since 2003, and added the ranking according to
subject groups in 2007. The results are evaluated according to
the following criteria: quality of education, quality of
faculty, research output (frequency of citations) and academic
per capita performance.
