High security and excellent health care

Thanks to extremely low crime rates, personal safety and freedom of movement are not a luxury but a matter of course in Switzerland. Children can go to school unaccompanied. Bodyguards for executives or VIPs are not the norm, and the city streets are safe even at night. Switzerland’s healthcare system is among the world’s best, guaranteeing excellent medical care.

Highest medical quality standards

Excellent, highly trained professionals, along with prestigious, leading-edge medical clinics and institutes, are part of the reason that health care in Switzerland is among the best in the world. A dense network of public and private hospitals ensures nationwide, top-quality care for everyone. 11.3% of the gross domestic product is devoted to health care.

Mandatory health insurance

Switzerland’s health insurance laws require every resident – whether Swiss or not – to be insured with the Swiss health insurance company of their choice Wahl for treatment costs in the event of illness («basic health insurance»). Switzerland’s health insurance companies are private-sector enterprises. The insured persons are responsible for paying the insurance premiums (member dues). Insurance premiums are not income-dependent, but vary depending on the health insurance company, place of residence, age and gender. Employed persons also have mandatory insurance for workplace and other accidents, paid by their employers.
